INTERCONNECT
Interconnect Melbourne is a creative home for independent artists working across performance, experimentation, and multidisciplinary practice in Naarm/Melbourne.
It began quite simply: from conversations about what was missing.
Too often, making work felt like it was squeezed into short windows—between funding rounds, venue availability, or project deadlines that didn’t leave much room for discovery. There were plenty of moments to present work, but fewer spaces where artists could actually stay with it. To test ideas. To fail. To return to something the next day and keep going.
Interconnect was created in response to that gap.
Founded by Adrien and Gabbie Tucker, Interconnect grew out of a shared belief that artists need continuity as much as opportunity. Not just a stage, but a place to build from. Not just outcomes, but process. A space where work can evolve over time without the pressure of funding and time.
We’re based on the north side of Melbourne, in a space that has been shaped deliberately to stay flexible. It shifts between rehearsal room, studio, workshop site, and performance space depending on what is needed. That adaptability is important to us—not as a feature, but as a philosophy. The work should lead the space, not the other way around.
What we’re building is not only a venue, but a creative environment that artists can return to. One that supports ongoing practice rather than isolated projects. Our focus is on making that support accessible, affordable, and consistent, particularly for independent artists who sit outside larger institutional frameworks.
Alongside rehearsals and residencies, Interconnect is developing a long-term vision for a multidisciplinary creative hub. That includes expanded studio space, public-facing programming, workshops, and a flexible performance environment that can grow with the community around it. We are interested in what happens when artists are given time—not just access.
At the centre of everything is connection. Between artists who might not otherwise meet. Between ideas at different stages of development. Between audiences and the process of making, not just the finished work.
We also care about the quieter parts of artistic practice—the uncertainty, the repetition, the conversations in rehearsal that shift everything, the work that doesn’t yet have a shape but is worth staying with anyway.
Interconnect is still evolving, and we want it to stay that way. It is shaped by the artists who move through it, the work that is made inside it, and the relationships that form along the way.
If you’ve ever needed a place to keep going with an idea—this space is for that.
