Creative Residency
INTERCONNECT residencies offer time and space for artists to develop new work within a flexible, industrial environment. Designed for process rather than outcome, residencies support experimentation, rehearsal, research and collaboration across disciplines. Artists are given consistent access to the space, allowing ideas to evolve at their own pace and take shape through use, repetition and refinement. Residents are also welcome to bring collaborators, peers and small audiences into the space as part of their process. Each residency is shaped around the needs of the work, with an emphasis on openness, independence and creative development.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. We welcome applications from artists at all stages of their practice. We are most interested in supporting people who will actively engage with the opportunity and make use of the space.
-
Yes. Residencies can be shared by up to two people where both artists are working collaboratively on the same project.
Residencies are allocated per project, not per person. Two artists cannot share a residency to undertake separate projects, and residency hours may not be divided between unrelated practices. If multiple artists are involved, the application should clearly describe the collaborative nature of the work and how the residency will be used collectively.
-
No. Residencies are process-focused and there is no requirement to create a finished work. We value experimentation, research and development as much as presentation.
-
Residents have access to shared lounges, communal tables, kitchen facilities, tea and coffee, as well as the broader warehouse space during their allocated residency hours.
-
The hours listed for each residency indicate the minimum access included within that residency. Additional studio time may be available throughout the residency period, depending on venue availability and other bookings.
As INTERCONNECT is also used for events, workshops, rehearsals and external hires, access outside of your allocated hours cannot be guaranteed. Where additional time is available, we do our best to accommodate residents and will communicate any changes to space availability with as much notice as possible.

We understand that making art often involves balancing creative ambitions with financial realities. As an independent, unfunded space, our residency fees are set at the minimum level required to support the ongoing operation of INTERCONNECT and are not subsidised by external funding.
Unfortunately, this means we are generally unable to offer discounted residency rates. We appreciate that this may place the program out of reach for some artists, and we encourage applicants to apply when the opportunity aligns with both their creative and financial capacity.
